Ebony Rose's art stems from a fascination with time, perception and how we interact and embody our surroundings. Of particular interest is the back and forth nature of the somatic response versus the conceptual, mental response to what is around us. Her work considers sculpture, drawing and painting processes in relationship to the conditions of the environment they are in, conditions such as the light, wind, air currents and how people move through the space. Four Corners a drawn square on the floor filled with water captures what is happening in real time such as reflections and the change that occur as the liquid evaporates. With her art she is also considering impermanence and continuations such as with Four Corners with its shifts from form to variations of form.
Ebony Rose was born in 1984. She grew up in Ontario and Colorado. She lives in Vancouver on unceded Coast Salish territories. She received her formal training from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA 2008 Painting and Sculpture) and then University of Victoria (MFA 2015 Installation). She has been awarded artist residencies in Germany and Colorado. She has exhibited in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Greece, Germany, Minnesota and New York.
