Dark Light, 2018
Full project here.
One component of a multi-room installation at Yamakiwa Gallery, Kamiebiike, Niigata, Japan.
The gallery is situated in a village in a traditional Japanese farmhouse in "Snow Country".
In this component: Shoji paper hangs from wooden beams in a two-level attic space. Shoji paper was found throughout the premises.
The other components of Dark Light consisted of drawings (roses and lotuses) and an installation (of water, ice and charred lotus roots). I was using parallel symbols and imagery from my home in the West with the culture I was visiting in the East.
Individual components of Dark Light here:
Lotus Ice
Rose
