SOON TO BE CAMPING AND MAKING AN ARTWORK AT SILENT CITY OF ROCKS (IMAGINE OUR PARKS, IDAHO, JUNE 2016)

STILL MOUNTAINS AND ROCKS THAT HAVE BEEN HERE CYCLICALLY OVER AND OVER AGAIN.  TIME. IMAGINING THOSE MOUNTAINS ONCE UNDER A SEA OF WATER. NOW BARREN TO THE  HOT DESERT SUN AND WINDS, SLOWLY ERODING TO ROCK DUST. I CONSIDER THE PINYON PINE, THE SPARKLING PINYON JAY. SAGE. DRYNESS. WATER. 

I REMEMBER SEEING PATTI SMITH PLAY AND IT WAS JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE ONE PLACE AND MOVE TO ANOTHER,  SHE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT HOW THERE ARE NO ENDINGS, ONLY CONTINUATIONS. HOW THINGS EVOLVE. I THINK ABOUT MORPHING, CHANGING.
"From the pyre rises the phoenix, that through a mantle of ash can emerge a shoot of restored life", WROTE SIMON SCHEMA.

HERE ON VANCOUVER ISLAND THE TREES BREATH. I  BREATHE. I CONSIDER LIFE, DEATH, CONTINUUMS, PEOPLE BEFORE ME, PEOPLE NOW.  ABOUT NAVIGATING THROUGH SPACE AND TIME AND ECOLOGY.  ART. ENCOUNTERING SURFACES, DRAWING WITH BODY AND EXTENDING HUMANNESS, GETTING ABSORBED, WATCHING WHAT HAPPENS. 

 "Artists are not motivated by a need to communicate; travel over the unfathomable is the only condition" WROTE ROBERT SMITHSON.
